Board of Governors Vacancy

Thea Silverstein has announced that she is stepping down from the State Bar of Arizona Board of Governors. Silverstein, an attorney with Snell & Wilmer, L.L.P., is taking a leave of absence to move to Italy along with her husband Lou.

"It’s been an extreme pleasure to serve on this board," she said during the September board meeting. "I will miss the Board and will keep in touch."

Silverstein was given the opportunity after her uncle, Tom Foglietta, a member of the U.S. Congress, was appaointaed by President Bill Clinton as ambassador to Italy. While in Italy, Silverstein will explore opportunities to work witih an Italian law firm.

Board members say Silverstein demonstrated good leadership during her time on the board.

"This board was very lucky to have Thea," says fellow board member, Nick Wallwork.

"It’s a great loss," says First Vice-President Dee-Dee Samet. "She contributed a lot to the board."

Silverstein was elected to the board on June 1996, when she filled Michael Kimerer’s one-year term as First Vice-President. Silverstein was re-elected to the board in June 1997 to serve District 6 Maricopa County.

The Board announced it will plan to advertise for a new board member to fill Silverstein’s post. Attorneys interested can apply at the State Bar of Arizona at 111 W. Monroe, Suite 1800, Phoenix, AZ 85003-1742 or call Carrie Sherman at (602) 340-7201. Selected candidates will be screened by the State Bar’s Appointment Committee.
