State Bar Mentor Program

The State Bar of Arizona has two Mentor programs from which to choose.

Telephone
The "telephone" mentor allows you to seek guidance from a mentor in a particular area of practice by calling 602-340-7304. The Mentor Program Coordinator will listen to your question and provide you the name and phone number of one of the several hundred experienced lawyers who have volunteered to help. You can use the program as many times as you wish, free of charge. All we ask of you is that after you have been in practice five or more years, you volunteer to be a "telephone" Mentor.

One-on-One
The "One-to-One" Mentor Program matches you to a mentor in a similar geographic location or area of practice. Just call the Mentor Coordinator for an application 602-340-7304. For a year following the match, you and your mentor can discuss a variety of topics including law office management, practical considerations in setting up your office, how to develop a client base, and other issues you may not have learned in law school. We ask that you provide us an evaluation of the program after the first six months and again after the year is over. If you and your Mentor both wish to continue after the first year, that is your choice.

Who are Mentors?
Mentors have five or more years of experience and have volunteered their time to assist other lawyers in deciphering the complexities of law practice. They know the importance of getting advice from others who have experienced similar frustrations and dilemmas. They do not want you to "re-invent the wheel."

What do I need to know?

• The Mentor Program objectives are to provide advice and to improve our profession.
• Inquiring attorneys must exercise independent professional judgment on behalf of their clients.
• Since the Mentor is a volunteer, please be respectful of the Mentor’s time.
• The Mentor Program will not be used as a job referral or recruitment device.
• The State Bar makes no representation about the knowledge or experience of the Mentor.
• The State Bar assumes no liability in responding to Mentor Program inquiries.
• The Mentor Program is not intended to create a formal association between attorneys.
